Famous television actress, Shagufta Ali talked about the most daunting period of her life when she had to be her own anchor. The actress recalled her stage three breast cancer and running out of money. She wasn’t suffering, but her father’s health also deteriorated at the same time, and despite it, she shouldered all responsibilities.
Shagufta Ali recalled hiding her stage-3 breast cancer for no work
Shagufta is one of the famous television actresses, who had been through a difficult phase. She talked aboug how she has whithered the storm and held her head high dedspite phasing health and financial issues. In an interaction with Siddharth Kannan, Shagufta talked about the reason why she hid her diagnosis.
Shagufta shared that she kept her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis a secret as she was worrised that it would leave her with no acting opportunities. She revealed back then, the industry’s attitude at taht time left her feeling extremely worried as she feared not getting work. She said:
“Uss zamaane mein uss cheez ko ye kaha jaata tha ki nahi nahi nahi nahi nahi, batana nahi batana. Bilkul don’t talk about it and don’t speak about it. Nahi toh kaam milna. Phir wahi darr, dara diya ki kaam nahi milega. Phir industry waale aisa karne lagte hain, aisa behave karte hain, aisa behave karte hain. Toh nahi bataya tha maine.”
However, she faced the biggest blow of her life that she had no bank balance, and even had to sell her jewellery and car to survive. But she made sure to not sell her home and she is not afraid of travelling in an auto rickshaw for work and medical purposes. She also talked about people questioning if she had no savings.
To this, she replied that she had plenty of savings and that’s what she used over the years but it all got exhausted. She stated that she was the only earning member in her house and all the savings were spent to cover illnesses, everyday expenses and maintaining the household. She said:
“When I started facing difficulties from 2017 onwards, people began questioning me, saying, ‘Didn’t you have any savings?’ Of course I did. I had plenty of savings, and that’s exactly what I used all these years. I’m not an Ambani, Tata or Adani, am I? It’s not like my money would never run out. How much savings do you think I could possibly have? I’m a television actor. I’m the only earning member in my house. Those savings had to cover illnesses, everyday expenses, groceries, maintaining the household, everything.”
Shagufta got extremely irked when people questioned her saving as she wasn’t spending money on gambling in night clubs or living a luxurious life, partying around. She added that all her moeny was spent paying the hospital bills
