Aaron Rodgers is doubling down on his word and seemingly staying the course of being decisive as he heads into the 2026 NFL season.
During a training camp press conference Monday, the future Hall of Famer confirmed this upcoming season with the Steelers will be the last of what will be a 22-year-long career and there will be “zero debate” about it by season’s end.
“This is it,” Rodgers, 42, said
“I thought last year might be it and then Mike [McCarthy] got hired, and then talked to the wife and she said, ‘You can do one more year. See if it works out.’ And then it kinda all came together.”
ESPN NFL reporter Brooke Pryor followed up, explaining that reporters just spoke to receiver DK Metcalf, who said sometimes guys just say it’s the last year.
Rodgers quickly countered and said “No, zero debate.”
The four-time MVP quarterback first declared it would be his swan song season during a press conference in May just days after signing a one-year deal for his second season in Pittsburgh.
He dragged out the decision, informing the Steelers just before minicamp. However, Rodgers had a reason for that.
“I wasn’t under contract, so I could take as much time as I want,” he said at the time.
As Rodgers reiterated Monday, he intially thought he already played his last season, especially when the Steelers ended things with former head coach Mike Tomlin.
Yet, he started to change his mind after his former coach McCarthy was hired in January.
The two spent 15 seasons together in Green Bay, which included a Super Bowl win in 2010.
Last year, Rodgers threw 3,322 yards for 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions to take the Steelers to a 10-7 season that ended in a wild-card loss to the Texans.
