Hyderabad: A social media video posted after a birthday celebration for BRS working president KT Rama Rao at an orphanage in Secunderabad helped reunite a 15-year-old boy with his family after he had been missing for 17 days.

The boy, who has a learning disability, went missing from Patancheru over two weeks ago. His parents had been searching for him ever since and had lodged a missing person complaint with the Patancheru police.

Meanwhile, members of the BRS social media team visited the Home for the Disabled Orphanage in Secunderabad on Wednesday to celebrate Rama Rao’s birthday under the party’s Gift a Smile initiative. After the programme, organisers Mohammad Pasha and T. Naresh Goud shared videos of the event on social media.

While scrolling through Instagram, the missing child’s father spotted his son in one of the videos.

He asked his houseowner for help and they located Pasha and Naresh Goud. Upon getting the details, they rushed to the orphanage and located the child. According to the orphanage staff, the boy had been found wandering near Secunderabad about two weeks ago.

A staff member who noticed the distressed child said the boy held his hand and pleaded with him not to leave him alone. The staff member then brought him to the orphanage, where he had been cared for since.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the child’s father said, “I have three children. He has a learning disability. He left home to go to a nearby shop 17 days ago but never returned. We filed a missing complaint with the Patancheru police.”

“I saw my son crying in an Instagram video while holding the hands of a few people. I showed the video to my employer, who helped us contact the organisers. Today, we found our son at the orphanage,” he said.

After completing the necessary formalities, the orphanage authorities handed over the boy to his parents in the presence of the organisers.
