A Queensland police officer charged with domestic violence and driving off without paying for petrol has been stood down.
The officer is a 32-year-old male senior constable from the police service’s Northern Region, which encompasses a huge swathe of the state, stretching from Gladstone on the coast to the entire Queensland border with the Northern Territory.
He was charged with contravening a police protection notice, which police alleged he committed while off-duty.
He has also been charged with two counts of fraud and one count of obstructing police over the alleged fuel theft.
The constable was expected to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 5.
A police spokesperson said the service was committed to transparency when it came to offences allegedly committed by its members.
“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the service faces serious allegations of misconduct,” they said.
“This does not mean that the allegations against the member have been substantiated.”
