The tide is turning for Port Washington Little League.
The Nassau County boys of summer are now a game away from being crowned New York champs after a heartbreaking semifinal exit in last year’s state tournament.
“It’s a true team,” manager David Gabriel told The Post. “Every kid is contributing to where we are today. It’s really just something special.”
Friday night’s finals at 7 p.m. in West Nyack will be a duel between Long Island and Staten Island.
Port Washington takes on Mid-Island Little League to climb one step closer to the Little League World Series.
The victor represents the Empire State in the LLWS regional tournament, where they will travel to Bristol, Conn., and face the best teams from New Jersey, Rhode Island and the Constitution State in games televised on ESPN.
That winner represents the Metro region for the big show in Williamsport, Pa.
A five-run third inning sailed Port Washington to a 6-1 semifinal victory over Twin Town, NY, while Mid-Island showed mightiness in defeating Florida, NY, 11-1 in a five-inning game.
Both squads are evenly matched at 2-1 in tournament play. Port has allowed 10 runs overall and Mid-Island nine.
“We’re playing up against a really good Staten Island team,” Gabriel said. “We’re going to have to play our best baseball.”
Isles streetball
The Islanders and the KP21 Foundation of Kyle Palmieri (below) will be inviting several dozen children of military families for a free streetball clinic at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
