Hosapete: A person who was brought to a police station in connection to a complaint allegedly died in custody shortly after midnight on Saturday, resulting in allegations of custodial death.
The deceased person has been identified as C Khaleelulla (38), a resident of Mehboob Nagar in Hagaribommanahalli.
According to the police, Khaleelulla and his wife, Sahinaz, had allegedly quarreled at their residence on Saturday. Following the dispute, Sahinaz approached the police. Acting on the complaint, police brought Khaleelulla to the station for questioning.
Khaleelulla allegedly became seriously unwell while at the police station and was immediately shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
However, the family members alleged that Khaleelulla died after being assaulted by police personnel.
Police said an inquest was conducted in the presence of a judicial magistrate.
News of the death triggered tension in the town, with a large number of people gathering outside the police station and the hospital. Additional police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.
Officials said that a case has been registered against a Head Constable and a constable in connection to the incident.
