Katie Price has finally addressed PETA’s plea to stop her owning pets after the charity said they would pay her £5000 to never take home an animal.
Over the years, a string of pets have died in Katie’s care, including two dogs, a horse and a chameleon, prompting PETA to call her a ‘serial animal killer.’
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) promised a reward if the mum of five signs a legal agreement promising not to buy another pet.
The row kicked up again after Katie admitted she’d lost her Sphynx cats while she was away in Dubai visiting her husband, Lee Andrews, who is back behind bars, again.
Speaking on her podcast, The Katie Price Show, the former glamour model said to her sister, Sophie: “Right, can I say something? The Sphynx cats were missing, but when I put a post up on Instagram, they suddenly came back. I’ve got a fence like – my brother obviously, you know, has come here so many times to block everything.
“But cats and Sphynxes in the summer, they like to wander, but they come back,” she added. Addressing the backlash she faces over her animals, Katie said: “I said to the vets, ‘Do you know how much stick I get?’ And the vet said, ‘I know, I see online.’
“I said, ‘But you guys know how well looked after my animals are,’ and I’m always bringing them in if they need worming or something like that. They’re like, ‘Kate, we know you do.’ And I said, ‘I’ve got that PETA offering me five grand to never have an animal, and they’ve never even met me or never even seen my animals.’
“I said, ‘Is there anything where vets can write reports?’ They say they can do, they said, ‘But Kate, don’t worry about it, because we all know you’re good with your animals.’
“I said, ‘I know, but everyone else doesn’t seem to think I am.’ They said, ‘Well, don’t worry about it, ’cause we know we got everything on record,’ which they do, of all my animals.”
Speaking about her new kittens, Kate explained that she won’t be keeping any and has already found homes for them to go to when they’re between eight and ten weeks old “I take them to the vets when they’re 8 weeks old, bcause that’s what I asked the vet, unless there’s any problems before, which so far, so good,” she told her sister.
Katie currently has 17 animals in her care, including seven sphynx cats, five dogs and a number of horses. One of her horses was killed after breaking free from its field in 2017.
After the incident, her gate was left open, which led to her dog being hit by a car near her home. In 2020, another dog was hit by a car. A second dog was hit in the same year and died, with a third being hit two years later.
Last month, Dina Taji, the ex-wife of Katie’s husband Lee, revealed she was terrified to send Kate’s new dog to the UK. Katie and Lee signed a contract to purchase a male pomsky – a cross between a Pomeranian and Siberian Husky. With both of the dog’s parents out of action, Lee’s animal-loving ex-wife reached out and offered to help take in the animal.
While she didn’t name Katie directly, Dina said she was now concerned about sending the dog to ‘the person’ in the UK. She told followers: “I want to hear your opinion and anything that you would like to share with me regarding this dog that I have with me right now,” she said. Dina added: “Because honestly, I’m receiving a lot of messages and I’m starting to find things out that I didn’t know before. I had no idea.”
