Liquor Outlets to Shut Across Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Future City for Bonalu

Hyderabad: Liquor outlets, including toddy and wine shops and bars attached to restaurants will remain closed across parts of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Future City commissionerates in view of the Bonalu festival on August 9, as police imposed restrictions to maintain public peace and tranquillity.

In Cyberabad, Police Commissioner M. Ramesh ordered the closure of such establishments on Sunday from 10 am to 10 pm in Kukatpally, Allapur, Raidurgam, Jeedimetla, Medchal and Chandanagar police station limits. Bars in star hotels and registered clubs are exempted.

According to a notification issued by Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, all toddy/wine shops and bars attached to restaurants excluding those in star hotels and registered clubs will remain closed for one day from 10 am on August 9 to 10 am on August 10 in Rajendranagar and Golconda zones.

In the Charminar zone, the restrictions will be in force for two days, from 10 am on August 9 to 10 am on August 11.

In a separate notification, Future City Police Commissioner Dr. Tarun Joshi announced that liquor outlets will remain closed on August 9 from 10 am to 6 am the following day within the commissionerate limits.

The orders have been issued under Section 20 of the Telangana State Excise Act, 1968, to ensure public peace and tranquillity during the Bonalu festivities.
