Strictly’s James Jordan previously said, ‘If I wasn’t with Ola I’d have bedded more women than Giovanni Pernice’
James and Ola Jordan have shocked fans by calling an end to their marriage after 22 years.
The Strictly Come Dancing stars had appeared to be one of the strongest couples on the scandal-hit show, surviving the so-called ‘curse’ that tore many marriages apart.
Though their time together was not without its challenges. The outspoken pair shared candid insight into their struggles, rows and sex life woes.
James, 48, once described marriage to Ola, 43, as ‘like a job’ and said it took a lot of effort to make it work.
Speaking to HELLO!, James said: “We’ve got a beautiful daughter and as my dad always used to say, and it’s true, ‘Marriage can be like a job sometimes, you’ve got to work at it’’
“I feel sometimes people are quick to give up on something and think the grass is always greener on the other side.”
James said ‘marriages and wives’ were the hardest things to deal with in life.
“It’s not all beautiful,” Ola added. “No one’s got a perfect marriage. It’s a work in progress and if two people want to be together, they’ll make it happen.”
When asked how they avoided the Strictly curse, James said he might have got close to his dancer partners if wasn’t for Ola.
“It’s normal in our world but not for everyone else and you’re so close to each other, dancing sexy, and there’s nice music and you’re training with each other for eight hours a day, so if there is a little bit of chemistry, something’s going to happen.”
“If they’re single, I say crack on, I’m all for it,” he added. “If I wasn’t with Ola, I’d have been worse than Giovanni Pernice!”
After leaving Strictly, James admitted he went to a ‘dark place’ after his dad died from an incurable brain tumour in 2021. While Ola’s IVF battles to have their daughter Ella led to the once super-fit couple comfort eating.
In 2022 they both underwent a massive lifestyle change and dropped 6.5 stone between them. At the time, the pair said their sex life was in the toilet and they’d stopped getting intimate with each other because ‘their bellies got in the way.’
Before shifting the weight Ola said: “The sex life is definitely different, if not worse, because we are so fat and don’t want to move after a bag of crisps and a Chinese. The bellies get in the way of us when it comes to sex. And I’m a bit heavy now. It’s not as exciting,” she told The Sun.
James says they started Googling pictures of themselves from back in their Strictly days and “wondering what changed.
“I was like, ‘Ola, you were well fit, what happened?’” he joked.
James added: “Sex is definitely not better with the mum and dad bods. I can’t throw her about any more like I am used to doing.”
The pair met in 1999 at a dance competition in Blackpool before becoming professional partners. They married in 2003 and joined Strictly in 2006.
“I’d just turned 21 two weeks before our wedding and I thought I was all grown up and ready to go,” Ola said previously. “Yet looking back, and when I see my nieces and nephews now, I was so young. Being 21 is very young to tie the knot.
“James was 25 at the time, so we were both young kids when you think about it, but it was the right decision because we’re still together.”
Fans had become suspicious about the couple in recent weeks, noticing their absence from each others social media pages. They were also pictured on solo-parent days out with daughter Ella leading fans to question in the comments if the worst had happened.
Last night the pair’s manager and friend Vickie White confirmed the news they had split after a trial separation.
“It is with great sadness that I can confirm that James and Ola began a trial separation some time ago. Their shared priority remains co-parenting their daughter, Ella, and they are committed to putting her wellbeing first.
“They would greatly appreciate your understanding as they navigate this difficult time.”
