Jim Ross Once Revealed He Rejected Sunny's Advances After His Wife's Death, 'Dodged A Bullet'

Jim Ross has found himself in the headlines after it was revealed that the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he is scheduled to undergo brain surgery. During his recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast, he announced that he will have a shunt inserted on August 12, 2026. The procedure will likely require him to stay in the hospital for about a day.

However, Jim, who serves as an AEW announcer, shocked fans by saying that he may have already officiated his final match. As his statements gain traction, here’s a look at when Jim claimed he rejected Sunny’s advances for a romantic relationship.

Jim Ross rejected Sunny’s advances after his ex-wife’s death

During an episode of the Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross and his co-host Conrad Thompson discussed all the drama and problems that had led to the exit of WWE Hall of Famer Tammy Sytch, who is best known as Sunny, from WWF back in the 90s. At the end of the episode, Jim shared a juicy piece of information with the fans, opening up about how at one point, Sunny had offered to be his girlfriend following his wife’s death. For those unaware, his wife, Jan, passed away in 2017. Jim said:

“She got break after break after break. She brought a lot of this shit on herself. I remember her offering; she wanted to move in with me in Oklahoma at one time.”

Jim Ross admitted that after the death of his wife, he was heartbroken and indeed felt really lonely. However, he had no interest in being involved with the drama that was likely to come if he said yes to Sunny’s proposal. Jim turned out to be right, as she is currently serving over 17 years in prison after a fatal DUI crash. Recalling what she told him at the time, Jim added:

“’Yeah, I’m a good girlfriend. I can cook. I’ll take care of you in the bedroom. Blah, blah, blah, and we can have a great time.’ And I thought about it for like, 10 seconds. No way in hell. I mean, I might be naive and lonely and heartbroken, but god damn it, I have already been down that road. I already saw what she was all about, and I wasn’t going to bring myself into the dramatic aspect in my life, and I’m sure as glad I didn’t do it.”

Referring to Sunny, Jim said, “a piece of ass is a piece of ass.” This is why, according to him, being in a relationship with her was not worth the trouble. He claimed that he had “dodged a bullet” by rejecting her. Jim also reiterated that Sunny’s offer to him was completely out of the blue. Before that, he never had a prior sexual relationship with her.

Will Jim Ross return to work after his brain surgery?

At present, Jim continues to remain optimistic about the possibility that he will return to work in the future. Reports suggest that he has expressed his desire to attend AEW’s All In event, which will be held at Wembley Stadium in London on August 30, 2026. Jim stated:

“I hope that my ending, my career ending, is planned. And so I don’t just show up one Wednesday night on ‘Dynamite’ and say, ‘Well, I got some news for you folks, I’m done.’ That might sound cool and edgy, but I would like to be able to know that I’m leaving. I think that’s important for my psyche. And I don’t know, maybe I’m looking at it wrongly, but in any event, that’s where I’m thinking – just have a good, clean ending.”
