ADILABAD: International Adivasi Day was observed across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Sunday. Various Adivasi organisations, district officials and ITDA officials organised the events on the occasion.
Addressing the occasion at various places, Adivasi leaders took the oath to fight for their rights on Jal, Jangal and Jameen.
Thudum Debba, Adivasi Sena and Adivasi Sankshema Parishath organised the special programs. Adivasis took out processions in Adilabad and Utnoor, Asifabad.
Former Adilabad MP and Raj Gond Seva Samiti state president Soyam Bapu Rao at a programme in Utnoor, asked the forest officials to stop attacks and harassing the Adivasis and appealed to the Adilabad MO Godam Nagesh to take the Adivasis’ land issue to the notice of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and resolve it since it is a central government-related issue.
Khanapur MLA Vedma Bojju said the state government was committed to protecting the rights of the Adivasis. Collector Rajarshi Shah, SP Akhil Mahajan, ITDA project officer Manda Makarandu and Adivasi leaders attended the program in Utnoor.
Thudum Debba State President Godam Ganesh said the Adivasis are still reeling under pathetic conditions even after 75 years of independence and facing hardship and humiliation at the hands of forest staff. He appealed to the state and central governments to take steps to protect the constitutional rights of Adivasis
