Nivin Pauly has commenced filming for his next Malayalam project, which pairs him with Kannada actor Rukmini Vasanth. The actor announced the beginning of the shoot on Sunday by sharing pictures from the film’s pooja ceremony on social media.
Currently referred to as NP51, the yet-to-be-titled project marks the directorial debut of Nashid Famy, who co-writes the screenplay with Nidhin Nagesh. Famy was previously part of the writing team of Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey. The upcoming film is said to be a romantic-comedy, although the makers have not revealed details about its plot.
Rukmini Vasanth, who has emerged as one of the prominent young performers in Kannada cinema, makes her Malayalam debut with the film. She is known for her work in the Sapta Sagaradaache Ello films and was also seen in Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1.
The project brings together an interesting combination of performers from Malayalam and Kannada cinema, with Aju Varghese joining Nivin and Rukmini in the cast. The two actors recently shared the screen in Sarvam Maya, which emerged as a major commercial success this year.
Nivin Pauly collaborates with Martin Prakkat’s production house
NP51 is being produced by several prominent names from the Malayalam film industry. Charlie and Nayattu filmmaker Martin Prakkat is backing the film through his production banner, with Nivin Pauly producing through Pauly Jr Pictures. Green Room Productions’ Siby Chavara and Renjith Nair are also attached as producers. Green Room Release will handle the film’s distribution.
The technical crew includes Electronic Kili as the music composer, with Bablu Aju handling cinematography and Kannan Mohan taking care of the editing. While the production has now begun, the makers are yet to announce the official title. More information about the film’s story and the rest of the cast is expected to be revealed as production progresses.
The film also adds another title to Nivin Pauly’s increasingly busy slate. The actor has several projects lined up across different stages of production and release.
Nivin Pauly and Rukmini Vasanth’s upcoming projects
Nivin’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, directed by Premalu filmmaker Girish AD and co-starring Mamitha Baiju, has already completed filming. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on August 21.
He will also be seen in Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, his collaboration with director Ram, which is scheduled for an October 1 release. Beyond these films, Nivin has Benz, featuring Raghava Lawrence and Ravi Mohan, as well as Dear Students, in which he shares the screen with Nayanthara. He is also set to collaborate with Premam director Alphonse Puthren for his 50th film.
For Rukmini, NP51 marks an important step into Malayalam cinema as she continues to expand her presence across South Indian industries. She is currently awaiting the release of Toxic, Geetu Mohandas’ upcoming film starring Yash in the lead. The film, which also features Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria, is scheduled to release on August 26.
Rukmini is also part of Dragon, the upcoming film directed by Prashanth Neel and headlined by Jr NTR. The film is expected to release on June 11 next year.
