Ann Altman Seeks Dismissal Of Sam Altman's Suit, OpenAI CEO Countersued His Sister For Defamation

In January 2025, Ann Altman filed a civil suit in Missouri against her brother, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, alleging sexual abuse and rape from 1997 to 2006 at their Clayton home, beginning when she was 3 and he was 12. After a judge dismissed expired claims, she amended it under Missouri’s child sexual abuse law.

Sam Altman denied the allegations and countersued for defamation in March 2025. He says the family supported her amid mental health challenges. Ann’s attorneys later withdrew from the case. The case is trending once again because, according to a new update, Ann has recently approached the judge to dismiss Sam’s lawsuit against her.

A report by TMZ on August 11, 2026 (ET) stated that Ann Altman is pushing a judge to dismiss the defamation suit her brother, Sam Altman, brought against her. She maintains that her allegations of childhood sexual abuse are factual.

As per the new legal documents, Ann has denied Sam’s accusation that she defamed him. She also objects to him describing her as having mental health issues, arguing he used that label in court filings and online to discredit and quiet her. Ann alleged in the court documents that the abuse left her with PTSD.

She also mentioned that Sam still sends her monthly money, acknowledging that he helped with bills and costs in the past. She continued by saying that Sam once offered to purchase a house for her, which she turned down because of the conditions attached.

She even admitted to posting about the alleged mistreatment online. Ann also claimed that she never named Sam directly and only referred to being harmed by “older siblings.” She’s now asking the court to throw out Sam’s counterclaims. As of this writing, Sam has not responded to the allegations made by his sister.

Sam Altman’s sister has pursued a completely different career

Ann Altman keeps a much lower profile than her older brothers. After graduating from Tufts University in 2015 with a degree in biopsychology, she told BI she’s taken a different path. She now describes herself as an artist and entertainer.

Her work history includes a job at a dispensary, as a certified yoga instructor, and both in-person and virtual sex work to support herself. In December 2018, she hosted her three brothers on her podcast, All Human Are Human. Ann is the youngest among all the siblings, and she once said that a long period of illness has put her in a tough financial spot.

She splits time living in Hawaii, where Sam owns a property. But Ann once said in an interview that she hasn’t spoken to him since 2021. Despite growing up close, she’s estranged from her oldest brother and doesn’t appear in the family’s public life.

As mentioned, Ann filed a civil lawsuit in St. Louis federal court in January 2025, accusing Sam Altman of sexually abusing and raping her between 1997 and 2006 at their family home in Clayton, Missouri. She said the abuse began when she was 3 and he was 12.

U.S. District Judge Zachary Bluestone ruled that Ann’s standalone sexual assault claims had expired in 2008, but said she could proceed under Missouri’s child sexual abuse statute. Sam then filed to dismiss her punitive damages claims and renewed his request to throw out the suit in March 2025. He also countersued Ann for defamation over social media posts and a video referencing “an almost tech billionaire” abuser.

In April 2026, both law firms representing Ann withdrew, citing a breakdown in the relationship shared between a client and an attorney.
