Alka Ahuja gets candid about raising her son, Ankur, after Squadron leader Ajay Ahuja’s death

In a recent interview with News9 Live, Alka got candid about raising her son, Ankur, after her husband, Ajay Ahuja’s death. Alka shared that she was initially unable to process the whole thing. But soon, she had to figure out everything, as at the time, Ankur was very young. She said, “Initially, I wasn’t able to understand anything. But there was also this tension that Ankur was very young, and we had to settle down in one place. I kept wondering, ‘How will it be in the future?’ That was the biggest concern.”

During that tough phase, Alka’s family stood by her side. Back then, she was offered a PCS job by the Punjab government in Chandigarh. After she completed her training in Chandigarh, she was allotted a flat. But just when Alka was moving towards some stability, she also lost her father. In her words:

“I told my father that I would go and join that job there. I had also got a job at F.S. Bal Bharti School at that time. My father told me to continue with that job and take up the petrol pump. I told my father, ‘No one has ever done any business in our house. How will I handle this?’ I went and joined the PCS. My father completed all the formalities regarding the petrol pump, and I continued with my job. The day I was allotted a flat there, I got the news that my father was no more.”

Alka shared that after she lost her father, she once again had to figure out what came next. She couldn’t shift with her son, Ankur, who was five or six years old at that time. Within a week of losing her father, Alka received the letter for the petrol pump. After a year, when the petrol pump was ready, she decided to come back to Delhi. While Alka was trying to rebuild her own life, she was also watching her young son, Ankur, deal with a loss he was initially too young to understand.

Alka Ahuja opens up about his son’s bond with Ajay Ahuja

In the same interview, Alka revealed that Ankur was more attached to his dad, Ajay. Initially, he didn’t understand anything as he was a small kid. Alka then recalled a question that Ankur asked her about his father. The question made Alka realise that Ankur was beginning to feel his father’s absence. She added that Ankur rarely spoke about his father, but he had his own way of keeping his memory alive. In her words:

“When I came back from Kota, suddenly he asked me, ‘Mom, Dad will never come back?’ That’s it. After that, he stopped talking about Dad. He never used to speak with me because he knew that Mom would get disturbed. When he used to come back from school, he used to get the paper from his bag. On the paper, ‘Ajay, Alka, Ankur’ used to be written. Every day. That’s it. But he never used to talk to me. Ankur was more attached to his father than to me.”
