Faria Abdullah, who has appeared in Telugu films such as ‘Jathi Rathnalu’ and ‘Mathu Vadalara 2’, has responded emotionally after facing severe trolling and religious abuse on social media following her recent participation in Bonalu celebrations in Hyderabad’s Old City.
The actress offered Bonam to the deity and took part in the festivities. She also danced to the beats of the drums at the temple premises, drawing the attention of devotees. Later, while speaking about Telangana culture, Faria became emotional. Videos from the celebrations subsequently went viral on social media.
However, the response was not entirely positive. Some users subjected Faria to religious abuse, questioning her participation in a Hindu festival and even calling her a “kafir”.
Responding to the criticism through a teary-eyed video, Faria said, “My dad is a converted Muslim, bro. Do you understand what that means? He got converted to Islam because he liked the religion.”
She explained that she grew up seeing the positive side of Islam because her father had consciously chosen the faith out of his own belief. At the same time, she said she did not harbour hatred towards those who criticised or abused her.
“Whoever was hating on me, whoever thinks that I am going wrong, that I am a kafir, whatever you want to say, I wish well for you, bro. I wish well for you,” she said.
Faria went on to explain her personal belief in seeing divinity in everything around her. “I see life in trees, I see life in rocks, I see life in butterflies, in everything,” she said, adding that recognising God in different forms should bring people closer to faith rather than create divisions.
“I pray for love, I pray for unity, I pray for peace,” she said. “That’s my rebellion, that’s my revolution, bro.”
The actress also said she wanted to be “aggressive” about spreading love and would continue sending love even to those who currently hate her.
Recalling a conversation with her mother, Faria said she had once asked about the word “Allah” and was told that it means light. She then questioned how something that represents everything could be used to exclude others. “How can you exclude something from everything, everywhere, all at once?” she asked.
Faria’s response has drawn attention for taking a completely different approach to the hate directed at her. Rather than responding with anger, the actress chose to speak about faith, gratitude, acceptance and her belief that God can be found in everything around us.
