A rising star, Noel Gallagher, and Pete Doherty have waxed lyrical about the two new additions to his band ahead of his biggest UK tour to date. Geordie star Andrew Cushin has unveiled an all-star new live band, revealing he will be joined by former Red Rum Club and Catfish and the Bottlemen stars.
The Wor Flags singer welcomes former Red Rum Club member Joe Corby on trumpet. He will join former Johnny ‘Bondy’ Bond on the lead guitar, while drummer David ‘Greenie’ Green, who has performed with the likes of Sam Fender, also links up with the bolstered group for a bumper production.
Greenie has also performed with the likes of Little Comets and VANT, as well as working with Adam Ant and on The X Factor UK. Bondy, meanwhile, became known to audiences across the world as lead guitarist with Catfish and the Bottlemen.
Cushin said ahead of his tour: “This is my biggest UK tour to date. That in itself can be a little daunting, but we all can’t wait to get it started.
“Bondy and Greenie have played in a band together before, and now, with the addition of Joe The Blow on the trumpet, I think this band is more than capable of smashing these shows out of the park.
“We’ve been in rehearsals working on the new music, and the whole thing sounds massive. I’m buzzing for people to hear it.
“These songs have grown with us, and this feels like the band and the live show going up another level. We just want to get out there now and play them.”
Joe was pleased to have joined the group, too, and admitted he was flattered to receive the call. He added: “I was really flattered to get the call as they’ve already got such a big sound – I can’t wait to add to that.
“I’ve been itching to get back out there since parting ways with Red Rum Club in February, and I couldn’t be happier to do it with this group of lads.”
Bondy added: “I’m excited to get back out this winter with Andrew and the band with the addition of some wonderful faces of old and new. It’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with!”
Cushin has previously had the huge backing of the likes of Noel Gallagher, Pete Doherty, Sam Fender and Louis Tomlinson.
Speaking previously to the Mirror about such high praise, Cushin said his link-up with the former One Direction man came after a random message following a TV performance. He revealed the Out Of My System singer got in touch following a successful performance on Sky One’s Soccer AM.
Tomlinson messaged him during the ad break to tell him he sounded great and to say well done. Cushin said at the time: “He then followed me [on X, formerly known as Twitter ] and because his fans are so passionate, I got bombarded with fan pages and all these messages.
After touring extensively with Louis Tomlinson across Europe and North America, he has performed at venues including the Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Greek Theatre and Forest Hills Stadium, while tours and shows alongside Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Robbie Williams, Pete Doherty and Starsailor.
Earlier this year, he also delivered five performances at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, before joining Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and The Undertones for a run of major UK outdoor dates.
Now attention turns to his biggest UK headline tour yet – and a live show built to match his growing ambition. David ‘Greenie’ Green added: “I’ve been a fan of Andrew since discovering his music a few years ago and recognised his talent instantly.
“So it’s an absolute pleasure to be asked to bash some drums for him. I can’t wait for the UK tour and, with this new line-up, these shows are not to be missed.”
