In May, it was revealed that Josh would be showing off his talents in a different format to what we’re used to, joining a three-strong Strictly Come Dancing hosting team

Josh Widdicombe will be a familiar face to British comedy and panel show fans, having appeared on Channel 4’s The Last Leg as well as QI, Live at the Apollo, A League of Their Own and Have I Got News For You. In May, it was revealed he’d be showing off his talents in a slightly different format, joining Johannes Radebe and Emma Willis as part of a three-strong hosting team on Strictly Come Dancing.

Josh, who appeared in the 2024 Strictly Christmas special, said at the time that dancing the Charleston dressed as a penguin was a “career high point”, and felt “giddy with excitement, honoured and a little overawed” to join the show.

It seems that Josh has his work cut out for him, given that he and his wife are renovating their £3 million family home in Exeter., Devon. Indeed, as Josh gets set for the start of the Strictly season, at home, their project is in “phase two”.

The pair touched on the renovation project during a recent episode of their Parenting Hell podcast.

Rob said: “I was gonna ask a Strictly question. Well, there was a bit of chat about what will be finished first, your house or the first Strictly live show, because we’re still doing this in a hotel room.”

When questioned about how close they were to finishing, Josh responded: “Phase two begins today”. Rob described this as a “political answer” that failed to address his question.

“All I will say, Rob,” he went on, “is the house will be finished as soon as we can possibly finish it. “So that we have every intention of completing the house on time and on budget.”

Quizzed on whether it would be done by Strictly’s Halloween show in October, Josh brushed it off, saying now wasn’t the moment for “nebulous targets”.

“What everyone wants is for the house to be done. And we are aware of that, and we are pushing…” he added. Rob maintained that he couldn’t recall a period when building work wasn’t taking place at Josh’s home.

Josh responded: “I know; I feel like Kevin McCloud’s (Grand Designs) going to show up. Like, also, we just found out the roof of the garage needs doing.” Rob highlighted that he’d require a roof or it would simply be “just a bit of garden”.

His co-star added: “I think we’re going to keep the garage”, while Rob joked he needed somewhere for his EV charger. Josh whispered conspiratorially: “I’m gonna have a pool table in the garage, Rob.”

In a separate update, Josh revealed he’d have jumped at the opportunity to do a full series of Strictly.

He told the Press Association and other outlets: “I think I’d have loved to do a full season of the show. That would have been thrilling… but let’s been (sic) honest, I wouldn’t have made it through the whole season.”
