Talent runs in Benidorm star Selina Griffiths’ family, as her mum is an acting legend
She played Pauline Maltby on ITV’s Benidorm, but it turns out actress Selina Griffiths isn’t the only famous face in her family.
Selina joined the cast of the hit programme back in 2011, as Pauline, the daughter of Noreen (Elsie Kelly) and sister to Geoff (Johnny Vegas). And it’s fair to say Pauline became one of the show’s most iconic characters.
Although she left in 2012, Selina returned to Benidorm to reprise her role as recovering alcoholic Pauline in the 2016 and 2018 series before the show was axed.
As well as Benidorm, Selina has appeared in the likes of Being Human, Trollied, BBC ’s Doctors and The Larkins. She also joined the cast of Disney + hit show Rivals in 2024, as Dame Enid Spink.
But it turns out talent runs in the family, as Selina’s mum is TV veteran Annette Crosbie. The actress played Margaret Meldrew in BBC’s One Foot in The Grave from 1990 to 2000.
Her other TV credits include Call the Midwife in 2019, Netflix ’s After Life, Midsomer Murders and The Vicar of Dibley. Annette also bagged a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress, for The Six Wives of Henry VIII in 1971 and in 1976 for Edward the Seventh.
Meanwhile, reacting to Annette being Selina’s mum, fans shared their shock on Facebook. Alongside a photo of the mum-and-daughter duo, one person wrote: “Annette Crosbie with Selina Griffiths (Mum and Daughter).”
Someone else said: “I didn’t realise they were mother and daughter.” A third chimed in: “Same…” Another fan penned: “Wow, I never knew they were Mother and daughter. Every day is a school day.”
A fifth commented: “Great pic, just loved Selina in Benidorm she was an amazing image of her Mum.” A sixth also said: “Of course. I can see it now! Both such great actresses.”
Annette and Selina have a close relationship. So much so, that during an interview with The Independent in 1998, Annette revealed that they even lived together.
She said: “These days, I live with my daughter, who fortunately is as crazy about greyhounds as I am because we’ve now taken on another two.”
