Real Housewives of Cheshire’s Leanne Brown struggled financially after splitting from her footballer husband amid personal turmoil

Former Real Housewives of Cheshire star Leanne Brown opened up in a new interview about her financial difficulties. The star, 49, who was once a millionaire had to sell some of her beloved posessions as she struggled with money amid the breakdown of her marriage to former England footballer Wes Brown.

Leanne, who appeared on the ITV reality show for six series and was once close pals with co-star Dawn Ward, quit the show when husband Wes was made bankrupt amid a series of bad investments.

“During Housewives the bills were secretly piling through the door,” she told The Sun.

The star, who had three wedding dresses to her marriage to Wes Brown, sold her posessions from her WAG days in order for her to pay the bills.

“I felt grateful I had those Chanel bags, clothes and shoes to sell,” she said. “I pawned my rings, necklaces, earrings.

“I wanted to keep my engagement ring for my kids. It was lovely. I didn’t get what it was worth. But I had to do it.”

Wes and Leanne split in 2022 after 25 years together and he went bankrupt a year later.

The former Manchester United star told Ben Health podcast: “I think the main thing is when you are making a lot of money, you need the right people, don’t you? And I would say that’s one of the things I didn’t have.”

He has since moved on since his split from Leanne with a new girlfriend, Amy.

While Leanne admitted she has dabbled in dating since her separation from Wes, who she shares three children with. But she also opened up on a podcast about her struggles since the split.

“Just because you’ve separated from someone, you don’t have to be at each other’s throats,” she said. “Although, it’s been really difficult just to go through that process in itself.

“Even though I was the one to leave, it’s such a massive change. 25 years is a long time and what’s been the most difficult is not waking up with my girls every day.

“I’m living in a separate house and they’re with their dad or with me, I don’t want to make rules. It’s not that they have to stay at their dad’s or mine, they’re old enough to make a decision.

“Sometimes I’ll say, ‘Are you coming to mine?’ and they’ll say, ‘No, I’m staying here,’ and it’s wounding for me to not have them there 24/7.”
