NTR district police have denied permission for the YSRC to hold dharnas, rallies and other protest programmes in Vijayawada on Monday, citing prohibitory orders in force in the city and the need to maintain law and order.
The YSRC had sought permission to organise constituency-level protests across the NTR Police Commissionerate limits as part of its statewide call to protest alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process.
Police said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Section 30 of the Police Act were already in force in the city. In view of the restrictions and the prevailing law and order situation, permission for the proposed programmes was denied.
The police also cited ongoing Vinayaka idol immersion programmes and processions, the possibility of traffic disruptions and a shortage of police personnel as reasons for denying permission.
Deputy commissioner of police Krishna Kant Patel appealed to political leaders, party activists and the public to cooperate with the police by adhering to law and order requirements and traffic regulations. He warned that those violating the orders would face appropriate criminal action under the law.
The DCP said the restrictions were aimed at ensuring smooth management of the immersion processions, maintaining peace and ensuring uninterrupted traffic movement in the city.
Central ACP K. Damodara Rao and inspectors Pavan Kishore, Chandra Sekhar, Ramesh, Chavan and Murali Krishna, among others, were present.
