A couple we watched fall in love on Big Brother are living completely different lives 12 months after meeting on the show.
A fresh group of contestants were preparing to enter the famous house this time last year, with content creator Elsa Rae and engineer Marcus John on the line-up. The duo separately applied for the competition hoping to experience something new, and it ended up changing their lives.
Marcus, who was 22 at the time, confessed that he joined the reality show because “why not?”. He told ITV: “This is something that not many people get the opportunity to do, and to say that I’ve done it is so surreal – those are the sort of things I love to do.”
Meanwhile, Elsa had stumbled upon an advert for the series on social media and had the exact same thought process. “I saw an advertisement to apply on TikTok, and I thought, ‘Okay, I’m just going to apply. Like, I’m just going to do it’. I feel like you’re only 21 once. And why not,” she shared.
The influencer also admitted she was hoping to “make new friendships” but left with so much more. Elsa and Marcus struck up a romance very early into the series and had confessed their love for one another by the time the show ended. Some viewers were convinced their connection was a “showmance” but the couple soon proved critics wrong.
Just six months after meeting on the social experiment, the pair revealed they were expecting their first baby together. They broke the news on Instagram with an adorable post that featured a picture of their baby scan. The caption read: “We’ve been keeping a little secret…our bubba due October 2026! We are so very excited.”
The young couple then announced their engagement, less than a month after their baby news. Marcus got down on one knee during a romantic picnic proposal, where they also learned the gender of their baby boy.
Elsa flaunted her diamond ring in an Instagram post sharing snaps from their big day. She captioned the upload: “The most special ring, on the most special day, we have come so far.”
Considering all of the major milestones the couple have experienced together, it’s no surprise they look back fondly on the last year. Marcus branded 2025 as “the best year of his life” in a heartfelt social media statement shared on New Year’s Eve.
The Manchester lad uploaded a series of photos highlighting standout moments from the year, including two with Elsa. His caption read in part: “I’m a firm believer in the butterfly effect, that decisions you make set off a chain reaction and ultimately changes your life.
“2025 taught me that taking risks can be scary but doing nothing is worse. Trust your gut, chase the unknown. Grateful. Proud. Still a bit in disbelief.”
Elsa, who made it all the way to the ITV final, posted her own moving statement reflecting on 2025. She wrote in part: “I got onto Big brother 2025 and became the runner up, where I also met the most amazing people, the love of my life and my best friend. Things do get better. I wish everyone a beautiful 2026. So so blessed.”
The Big Brother finale saw Cameron, Elsa, Richard, Tate, Jenny and Emily vying for the victory. Richard was ultimately voted the Big Brother 2026 winner by the public, bagging the £100,000 prize.
