Anantapur: A helicopter showering flowers on a Ganesha idol added a special attraction to the immersion procession in Hindupur town of Sri Sathya Sai district on Sunday, marking the 50th year of the Garidi Ganapathi celebrations.
The Ganesha immersion procession began on Sunday morning, with thousands of devotees gathering along the route.
A private helicopter hired from Bengaluru showered flowers on the Garidi Ganapathi idol from NTR Junction to Ambedkar Circle.
The Garidi Ganaesha idol is installed at DL Road and has been associated with the traditional Garidi, or wrestling centre, for the past five decades.
The organisers planned the special flower shower to mark 50 years of the Ganesh celebrations, organiser JV Ravi said.
Devotees took part in the procession with Kolatam and dancing.
Former municipal chairman B.S. Vidyasagar said the Hindupur Ganesh Shobha Yatra had been attracting devotees from different parts of the region every year.
ASP K. Mahesg said additional police personnel from Sri Sathya Sai and Anantapur districts had been deployed for bandobast.
