Wanaparthy: Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Sunday questioned former chief minister and BRS leader K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to explain why the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme remains unfinished, despite his promise to complete it within three years.
The Minister took part in several development programmes in the Devarakadra constituency of Mahabubnagar district, presided over by MLA Madhusudan Reddy. Minister Vakiti Srihari was also present. Venkat Reddy later addressed a public meeting in Madanapuram, Wanaparthy district.
Venkat Reddy alleged that KCR had made tall claims that he would personally oversee the project’s completion. Instead, he said, KCR “ran after Kaleshwaram” for the sake of commissions.
Turning to BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the Minister said he had won six times as an MLA by staying among the people and working for them. KTR, he mocked, became an MLA only by using his father’s name. He also said the government is spending Rs 1,600 crore on road development in the district. Officials and local public representatives attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development & Fisheries, and Sports & Youth Services, Vakiti Srihari said drought conditions have set in due to the El Niño effect. He urged farmers under the Jurala project not to panic and to use irrigation water sparingly. He said steps are being taken to keep water reserves available for drinking water needs.
Vakiti Srihari also criticised the previous BRS government for neglecting the Palamuru-Rangareddy scheme. He said its leaders were now shedding “crocodile tears” for farmers.The Ministers laid the foundation stones for three major road projects under the HAM (Hybrid Annuity Model) to be built at a cost Rs 134.98 crore, a double road up to Varne, including a link to Kurumurthy Swamy temple at Rs 103.54 crore, repair of the road from NH-44 to Devarakadra via Ponnakal and Dokur at Rs 13.43 crore and road widening project from Bhoothpur Chowrasta to Karvena via Bhattupalli Thanda at Rs18.01 crore.
Once these roads are ready, travel will be faster, and devotees visiting Kurumurthy Swamy temple will find it easier to get there. The projects will also help local business and farming.Earlier on Sunday, Vakiti Srihari, along with Venkat Reddy and MLA Madhusudan Reddy, inspected the elevated corridor construction works near the Purumurthy temple in Chinnachintakunta mandal, Mahabubnagar district.
