Voices from across the political spectrum in Germany often criticise the country’s Einbürgerungstest (naturalisation test) for different reasons.
For example the far right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party think the test is too easy and want to tighten the path to German citizenship by making it more difficult – or even changing it completely to make candidates write essays.
Other parties on the left say the test is just about memorising answers and does little to aid integration and engagement in German society.
