Kuppam: Stating that Kuppam gifted him political life, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the government was moving ahead with a comprehensive plan to transform Kuppam into a model constituency and ‘Swarna Kuppam’. He said development activities had been taken up with renewed vigour over the past two years and that Kuppam would serve as the starting point for several new initiatives. The Chief Minister laid foundation stones for development works worth Rs 327 crore in Kuppam today.
Later addressing a public meeting Chandrababu Naidu said water had been brought to Kuppam through the Handri-Neeva canal, enabling the filling of 133 tanks. More than 550 minor irrigation tanks in the constituency would be interconnected through lift irrigation and pipelines, he said. The government was also examining the construction of reservoirs in Yamiganipalli and Manapalli areas.A reservoir would be constructed at Beeruvanipalli through the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Kuppam Branch Canal at a cost of ₹45 crore, he announced.
As reservoir storage levels were low this year, the Chief Minister urged people to conserve and make judicious use of available water. He said steps were also being taken to ensure adequate fodder availability.The Chief Minister said El Niño had resulted in deficient rainfall conditions across the State this year. With the Krishna and Godavari rivers receiving less water than expected, pressure had increased on water availability.
Stressing the need to promote organic fertilisers, biochar and other practices that improve soil fertility and moisture while protecting biodiversity the Chief Minister said around 20 lakh people in the State were already practising natural farming and called for expanding its reach. Alternative crops should be encouraged through the PMDS system and agricultural land should not be left fallow, he said. He suggested that farmers and women could increase their incomes by focusing on millets requiring less water, livestock, poultry and horticultural crops.
The Chief Minister announced plans to develop Kuppam as a net-zero constituency. He said hospitals, colleges, schools and government offices should all move towards net-zero operations.Every household would be encouraged to install a solar rooftop, turning every home into a power-generating unit, he said.The Chief Minister inaugurated PM-KUSUM solar projects with a capacity of 15 MW established for agricultural feeders.
The Chief Minister said 8,904 ‘Bangaru Kutumbalu’ had been identified in Kuppam and were being economically strengthened through the P4 programme. The goal was to make Kuppam a poverty-free constituency, he said. Companies including TVS, Adani and Mega had adopted more than 8,900 families and were supporting their economic advancement, the Chief Minister said.
The government’s objective was to develop an entrepreneur or a startup founder from every household, he added.Thirty-two industries had already been established in Kuppam, providing employment and livelihood opportunities to local youth. Skill training was being provided to ensure that local youth secured jobs in local industries, he said. Skill development would also be provided through the Birla Institute and Manasa Sarovar Global University.
The Chief Minister recalled that foundation stones had been laid for projects worth ₹7,939 crore in Kuppam two months ago.He said foundation stones had now been laid for government works worth ₹38 crore within Kuppam Municipality, while bhoomi puja had been performed for projects worth another ₹289 crore.Improving sanitation so that no garbage was visible anywhere in Kuppam was a priority, the Chief Minister said. Compost was being produced from waste through 82 processing centres.
He inaugurated an Integrated Solid Waste Management Plant and Material Recovery Centre constructed at a cost of ₹3.30 crore.Foundation stones were laid for RDO and ASP offices to be constructed at a cost of ₹10 crore. Bhoomi puja was also performed for the construction of Mallanur Junior College on 10 acres at a cost of ₹2.70 crore.Development works worth ₹2.50 crore were launched at the Kuppam Market Yard.The Kuppam Municipality area would receive improved infrastructure, including high-mast streetlights, public toilets, underground utility systems, BT and CC roads, among other facilities. A modern Rythu Bazaar would be established to facilitate the sale of local produce, while a Heritage Granite Stone Cluster would also be developed, he said.
The Chief Minister said the State government had taken up the issue with the Centre and secured a halt for the Dadar–Puducherry Express at Kuppam Railway Station.National highways were being developed to improve connectivity between Kuppam, Bengaluru, Chennai, KGF and Krishnagiri, he said. An alternative road was being constructed from Kuppam–Pogurupalli towards Bengaluru.He said he had requested the Railway Minister to provide a broad-gauge railway line connecting Chittoor with Kuppam.The government would also work towards establishing an airport in Kuppam in the future, he said.The Chief Minister said citizens’ health records were being digitised through the Sanjeevani project. Various medical tests had already been conducted in Kuppam, with digital health records created and treatment provided accordingly.Medical services were being provided to 1.29 lakh people through 13 PHCs and area hospitals, he said. Steps were being taken to safeguard the health of all five crore people of the State by the end of this year.
The government’s objective was to ensure that every eligible family had a house, the Chief Minister said. Through the ‘Pedalaku Pattabhishekam’ programme, steps were being taken to provide houses and house sites to the poor.He said a decades-old land issue in Kangundi had been resolved and pattas distributed to 320 beneficiaries. Similar pattas bearing the Raja Mudra were being issued across the State through the ‘Mee Bhoomi–Mee Hakku’ programme, he added.
During his Kuppam visit, Chief Minister Chandrababu interacted with farmers, homemakers, employees, youth and beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. He enquired farmers about the benefits from water supplied through the Handri-Neeva canal.He also spoke to a woman named Lakshmi about the benefits she received through the P4 programme. She thanked the Chief Minister and TVS for supporting her in establishing a brick kiln and helping her become a woman entrepreneur.The Chief Minister congratulated Surekha, a young woman who secured employment in an industry in Kuppam.Young entrepreneur Subrahmanyam said Kuppam Medical College had saved his father’s life.
