IS Sadan police on Monday arrested Syed Sajjad in connection with the hit‑and‑run case in which three‑year‑old Mohammed Izhaan Moueed was run over on Sunday.
Sajjad, an architect, was tracked and arrested from his house in Press Colony, Malakpet, through the vehicle registration number AP 11AN 6899. During questioning, he said he was returning home after visiting a site when the toddler suddenly crossed the road, leaving him no time to apply brakes.
Sajjad told police he did not flee but got down from his car and tried to help the family with an intention to admit the child to hospital. He said he panicked after a crowd gathered and feared being beaten by an agitated mob, forcing him to leave. The car, registered in the name of Syeeda Fatima, has been seized. Sajjad was produced before court for judicial remand, IS Sadan SHO G. Nagaraju said.
