The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday demanded that the new hospital building near MGM Government Hospital in Warangal be completed and opened by December 31, after portions of the ceiling fell on patients at the existing hospital on Sunday. The party also sought a safety inspection of the existing buildings and alleged that police stopped its delegation from meeting the district collector and hospital superintendent.
A CJP team led by south zone in-charge and national media head Vijay Mallangi visited the hospital to enquire about the injured patients and inspect the condition and safety of the buildings. According to CJP, the collector left without speaking to the delegation. Members later sought to meet the hospital superintendent, but police told them that he had gone to Hyderabad and did not permit a meeting.
CJP sought repairs to any building portions found unsafe and better treatment for those injured in the incident. Mallangi warned that the party would organise a “Maha Dharna” in Warangal if the new hospital building was not opened by the end of the year.
“It is extremely worrying that people who came to a government hospital for treatment were injured again after portions of the ceiling fell inside the same hospital,” Mallangi said. Hospitals meant to treat patients should not put their safety at risk, he added.
Mallangi said governments should pay attention to the condition and safety of existing government hospitals while opening new facilities. He also called on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give priority to problems faced by patients at existing government hospitals.
