On the wings of their 41-31 triumph over SMU on Saturday, the Louisville football team is now receiving serious love as a potential College Football Playoff team in 2026. Standing between the Cards and that promised land are nine more regular season games that, for the time being at least, U of L is favored to win.
First up is Wake Forest, a team FanDuel currently has Louisville as a 12.5-point favorite over.

The Demon Deacons are coming off of their first loss of the season, but the 33-20 defeat at the hands of Miami might also be Wake’s best overall performance of the season. Following a 38-16 stomping of Akron and a 38-36 double overtime win at Purdue, Jake Dickert’s team became the first this season to put at least a jolt of fear into the Hurricanes. Quarterback Gio Lopez threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns, but ultimately trunovers and self-inflicted mistakes kept the Deacs’ rally from getting any closer than 11 points.
Louisville and Wake Forest played in every season from 2014 through 2022, but have not squared off since then. The Cardinals lead the all-time series, 7-3, and have won three of the last four meetings.
U of L will enter the game with a 2-1 overall record, but the Cards are one of just 20 teams in the FBS with a perfect 3-0 mark against the spread. Wake Forest is 1-2 against the spread, but did safely cover a +20.5 number against Miami.
Louisville and Wake Forest will kickoff at noon on Saturday inside L&N Stadium, where the Cardinals are 2-0 so far this season. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, and will serve as the contest that directly follows “College GameDay,” which will be live from Knoxville for Tennessee‘s matchup with No. 1 Texas.
