Michael Carrick only has a few matches to save his Manchester United career after a woeful start to the season.
The 45-year-old earned the permanent role after steering the club back in the right direction when he took over from Ruben Amorim in January.

Unfortunately for the Wallsend native, the new campaign has been drastically different, with the team only registering one win in five Premier League fixtures, which leaves them 12th in the table.
Moreover, they have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Brighton after squandering an early two-goal lead.

On Sunday, United avoided a third straight defeat thanks to Matheus Cunha‘s late equaliser at Fulham. However, a 1-1 draw against the struggling West Londoners was hardly an inspiring result, so the sensation is that Carrick is still walking on thin ice.

According to a popular account on X (formerly Twitter), INEOS have opted against making an immediate change during the extended September-October international break, giving the manager an ultimatum until the next one in November amid growing concerns about his suitability for the role.
“Michael Carrick given deadline until the international break,” posted the news account on Monday night.
“There are growing concerns within the Manchester United squad that Michael Carrick is not the right fit to take this group of players forward. The question is no longer if Carrick leaves, but when.
“The feeling inside Old Trafford is that Carrick has until the next international break to turn results around. The owners are prepared to make a change if needed.”

The source adds that former Bournemouth and Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe is ready to replace his compatriot if were to receive a call.
“Eddie Howe is very keen to become the new MUFC manager.”
The 48-year-old, whom Pep Guardiola described as a ‘top manager’, has been on the shelf since leaving Newcastle in the summer.

Unfortunately for Carrick, Man Utd’s next run of fixtures will be a particularly tough one. It begins with a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, who will be equally desperate for a result, before travelling to the Spanish capital for a Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

Afterwards, they will negotiate an away game against old rivals Leeds United, who have been solid this season, and then head to Italy to meet Europe’s newest sensation: Cesc Fabregas‘ Como.
The next four fixtures will be against Bournemouth, Chelsea, Serie A leaders Roma, and Aston Villa. Based on United’s current form, it is difficult to envision a positive run.
Therefore, Carrick must use the long break to reset and try to turn things around before it’s too late.
