Sue Devaney is a firm favourite on Coronation Street as Debbie Webster – but what do we know about her life?
Sue joined the long-running ITV soap way back in 1984 playing Debbie, who was introduced as the sister of Kevin (Michael Le Vell). She ended up leaving a year later, only to make her cobbles return in 2019.
And it’s fair to say Debbie has become a firm favourite with fans over the years. However, the beloved businesswoman has had a difficult past 12 months on the cobbles, including a dementia diagnosis.

What has Sue been in?
Sue is no stranger to appearing on TV screens. As well as Coronation Street, she has starred in the likes of Casualty, Common As Muck, Heartbeat, Rita Briggs in Jonny Briggs and Dinner Ladies.
She’s also starred in movies such as Years and Years, The Mystery of Men, Made in the Eighties, and Shakespeare’s Globe: The Two Noble Kinsmen.
As well as on screen, Sue has also had success on stage too, including roles in London productions of When We Were Married, The Wind in the Willows, and The Land of the Living.
Sue’s romance with husband
Sue is loved-up with her BBC journalist husband Jim O’Farrell. The couple were said to have tied the knot in a ‘low-key’ ceremony in Skipton, North Yorkshire, back in 2024.
At the time, Sue was described by guests as looking ‘a million dollars’ at the intimate ceremony attended only by a select few family members. Sue confirmed the happy news to her followers in an Instagram post that featured a photo of herself and Jim outside a hotel.
While not much is known about Sue and Jim’s relationship, the soap favourite often takes to social media to share snaps of Jim and their life together.
What’s more, Sue does not have any children and previously discussed the topic in an interview with The Big Issue. She stated: “I never had any children, and I’m now nearly 50, and I think I’ve missed that opportunity, but it’s only because I was busy doing what I was doing.”
She added: “People think you can have it all I don’t think you can.” She then said: “I like to do one thing and not juggle about 25 plates. I’ve got a lovely partner, my sister, and my niece. I’ve got a life outside of acting.”
Sue’s real age
Sue was born on 2nd of July in 1967 in Ashton-under-Lyne, making her 59 years old. Reacting to her age on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page when she turned 59 in July this year, fans shared their shock.
One person said: “Wow she looks amazing!” Someone else added: “Lovely lady, looks a lot younger.” A third agreed: “Looking great for nearly being 60!”
