Indian cinema is set to reach a wider audience in Australia with the launch of the Indian Film Festival of Perth, which will make its debut from November 12 to 15, 2026. The four-day event will be held across multiple venues in Perth and will showcase films spanning Indian and South Asian languages.
The new festival is being launched by the team behind the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) and the Indian Film Festival of Sydney (IFFS). Following the established festivals in Melbourne and Sydney, the Perth edition marks the organisation’s expansion into a third major Australian city.
The festival was announced during Western Australian Premier Roger Cook’s visit to India. During his keynote address, Cook highlighted the growing cultural and creative relationship between India and Western Australia while announcing the new celebration of Indian cinema.
He added that the inaugural edition would welcome a select group of celebrated Indian filmmakers, who would have the opportunity to experience Western Australian hospitality and visit Perth Film Studio.
Mitu Bhowmick Lange, who heads the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and Sydney, also expressed excitement about bringing the festival to Western Australia. She said the Perth edition would give local audiences an opportunity to experience the diversity of Indian and South Asian cinema.
According to Lange, the festival aims to go beyond film screenings by encouraging conversations, collaborations and connections between the Indian and Western Australian creative communities.
With its launch, the Indian Film Festival of Perth adds another platform for Indian storytelling in Australia and further expands the presence of Indian cinema across the country. The inaugural edition will take place from November 12 to 15, 2026, across multiple locations in Perth.
