Dolly Parton reportedly sought experimental treatment in Germany for her cancer a year before she died. The Queen of Country died aged 80 on 25 August, after a cancer battle that was kept secret from the public.
New reports have suggested that she took a private jet to Frankfurt to undergo experimental treatment. Speaking to TMZ, sources claimed that she stayed in Frankfurt for a week before returning to Tennessee and that she felt her treatment had been effective at restoring her strength.
The Mirror has contacted representatives of Parton’s estate for comment.
The type of cancer that Dolly was facing has been left undisclosed. Her death was announced by nephew Bryan Seaver on Instagram. “I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now,” he said. “It is an honour, an honour that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness.”
In a statement shared with The Mirror the day after her death, representatives for the country star confirmed that the sad news followed a “brief battle with cancer.”
Dolly didn’t just keep her cancer a secret from the wider world, she also kept it hidden from her family. Her sister Stella has said she kept her cancer diagnosis from her wider family and the public because she didn’t want to worry anyone.
Speaking to Gayle King on CBS Mornings, she also claimed that she “didn’t want a lot of family worried about it”. Stella explained that “some of us knew, the ones of us that were closer” but “not every relative”.
Dolly “did not want people sad and she did not want people worried”, her sister shared. She added: “She’d be really happy and delighted that people have shown her so much love because she knew that that would make us feel better as her family.”
This came after Dolly’s other sister Freida paid tribute to her: “Thank you all for bearing with me as I mourn the death of my big sister. I know to the entire world, she was a superstar, but to me, she was my Dolly Momma.
“She was the sister who would climb into bed with me when I was little because we were both afraid of the dark. She was the woman who stepped up and became my Momma, raising me from ages 13 to 18. She was the one who tried to convince me to wear her wigs at my shows in Dollywood (sorry, sister, but I definitely didn’t listen to you on that one).”
She added: “Like all sisters, we definitely had our share of arguments and disagreements throughout the years, but even through all the highs and lows, and all the laughter and tears, I never stopped loving her.
“I asked you all months ago to pray for Dolly, but now I’m going to ask you to please pray for me and my entire family as we navigate this insurmountable loss.”
