During her appearance on the Kelly Corrigan Wonders: About Your Mother podcast, Cindy spoke about the tragic loss she witnessed at an early age and revealed:
“I was 8, my older sister would have been 10. My younger sister would have been 4, and Jeff was like 2, turning 3 when he got diagnosed, and then he was sick for two years. We knew [Jeff] was sick, but we didn’t really know what was going on. When he died, obviously that was devastating for the whole family.”
In the same interaction, Cindy revealed that her mother coped with the loss by attending death and dying courses and relying on her strong faith. On the other hand, her father showed a different way of healing as he had to return to work just three days after the tragedy. Cindy shared that her parents’ idea of dealing with the loss was very different.
When Cindy welcomed her son, Presley, in 1999, she understood what her parents went through during the period of their grief. Going further in the podcast, Cindy shared the heartbreaking conversation she had with her mother and said:
“I remember when I had my first kid… then I called my mom and was like, ‘OK, how did you survive?’ You know? ‘Cause you can’t imagine losing a child until you have a child.”
