Lorraine Kelly has revealed that her mum is spending her 85th birthday in hospital following a fall, and it all comes just months after the TV star tragically lost her father
Lorraine Kelly’s mum has been rushed to hospital. The daytime TV star, 66, was back in her usual slot of her ITV daytime show on Tuesday morning, now that it has returned from its break amid ITV cuts.
Starting the show with what was a birthday message to her mum Anne, who turned 84 on Monday, Lorraine told viewers that she had sadly had a fall and was in medical care.
She said: “Happy birthday to my dear mum. Sadly, she’s back in hospital. She had a wee fall. God bless her. I hope she has a good day. Mum, have a great day as much as you can in hospital.”
Lorraine then took to Instagram where she explained further and revealed the extent of her mum’s injury. She wrote: “Happy 85th birthday to my mum.
“Sadly celebrating in hospital today after a bad fall resulted in broken arm. Saw her at weekend and she’s getting well looked after. Hopefully back home with us soon.” The presenter was inundated with comments of support and good wishes in the comments section of her post.
One fan said: “Wishing your mum a happy birthday and speedy recovery your wee muma looks fab,” and another wrote: “Sending get well wishes and wish dear mum a happy birthday xx”
A third wrote: “Happy birthday beautiful lady ! You look so young ! Hope your arm gets better soon,” and a fourth said: “Oh no so sorry hope she will be alright take easy happy birthday.”
Earlier this year, Lorraine was dealt with tragedy when her father John Kelly died on an icy path. John was found injured early on Saturday morning in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire. It comes as the area was hit by sub-zero temperatures. Sadly, John died at the scene.
It’s said police are looking at a “slip on ice” as part of their inquiries. The Sun said at the time that staff from a nearby Tesco store are thought to have found the great-grandad injured at around 7am. They then called emergency services.
Lorraine announced the devastating news in a post on Instagram. She said: “My dad has died. I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.”
She went on: “He was in poor health but it has still been a shock. Any of you who have experienced a similar loss will know how my brother Graham and I are feeling. Our priority is taking care of my mum and the family would very much appreciate privacy at this distressing time.”
