Zayn Malik has shared a rare photo of himself with his daughter Khai. The former One Direction star, 33, was previously engaged to model Gigi Hadid and the pair welcomed their little girl just over a year before they split.
The singer does not normally share updates on his daughter publicly but as the little one celebrated her sixth birthday with a lavish party thrown at Nickelodeon Universe and Hasbro arcade in New Jersey, he posted a rare picture of her to social media.
He wrote alongside the photo: “Khai’s 6th birthday this weekend!! Big thank you to everyone who made it extra special. @americandream – Nickelodeon Universe & Hasbro Arcade. The girls had the BEST time! And… @thelondonbaker the cake is epic, as always thank you!”
In the snaps, Khai’s face could not be seen as they were all taken from behind her head, or had an emoji placed over her but Zayn was busy lighting the candles on her cake and the youngster seemed to be having fun at the arcade in the other pictures.
Zayn was inundated with messages from fans who were thrilled to see the happy occasion take place. One said: “Wishing a happy birthday to the beautiful Queen Khai I am proud of the wonderful father and person you are. I adore you both; happy birthday, Princess!”
Another said: “Happy birthday princess khaiii. Omg She grow up So fast.” A third wrote: “I hope she had the best day! You’re such a cute family,” and a fourth said: “Love how you’re protecting her peace while still celebrating her. Happy belated birthday Khai.”
Earlier this year, Zayn, who found global fame when he was selected to be in One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and the late Liam Payne, reflected that he wasn’t happy at the height of his pop career , and he only found enjoyment again once his daughter was born.
He said: “I wasn’t enjoying anything. It could be the most amazing thing on the planet and I just wasn’t fazed by it at all. I felt enjoyment again after Khai was born. It was like, ‘I just want to be happy for this other human being and be a good role model for her.’
Zayn looks after Khai 50% of the time and also credited her with with giving him the confidence to get back on stage – enjoying his first solo headline tour, the Stairway to the Sky Tour, between 2024 and 2025.
He said: “Since Khai’s been in my life, it just made me want to show her what I do. I’ve been on stage a lot, you know, before she was born, but she never got to really see her dad do his job.
“I want to do it for her. The way she looks at things and experiences things for the first time, that’s really priceless.” But Zayne also admitted that he has become anxious that as Khai gets older, she may not want to spend as much time with him.
He confessed: “I’m scared of her getting older because then I’m thinking, my purpose will diminish again. Maybe she might not need me as much and that’s kind of scary to think about.”
