Nalgonda: District authorities have made arrangements for the immersion of Ganesh idols in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts on Wednesday, with cranes, lighting, barricading, trained swimmers and rescue teams deployed at designated immersion points.
A total of 6,184 Ganesh idols were installed across Nalgonda district for the nine-day Ganesh Navratri celebrations. Idols below 10 feet in height will be immersed in Vallabharao Tank on the outskirts of Nalgonda, while those above 10 feet will be immersed in the Nagarjuna Sagar left canal at Vemulapally.
The larger idols will reach Vemulapally through Clock Tower Centre, Ramgiri and Panagal flyover on the Nalgonda-Thipparthy route.
Police have stepped up security in the sensitive Old City area of Nalgonda in view of the Ganesh Shobha Yatra and the movement of Ganesh idol No. 1 through the area.
Arrangements have also been made at Bheemanapalli Cheruvu at Kommutanda for immersion of idols from the Devarakonda area.
Nalgonda SP Sharath Chandra Pawar said DJs would not be permitted during the Ganesh immersion procession. Breathalyser tests would be conducted on drivers of vehicles taking part in the procession.
The SP, along with collector B. Chandrashekar, inspected the arrangements at Bheemanapalli Cheruvu in Kommutanda, Devarakonda mandal, on Sunday.
Around 1,000 police personnel will be deployed along the Ganesh Shobha Yatra route in Nalgonda. Police urged devotees and organisers to follow safety guidelines and cooperate with the police and other departments.
Police, revenue, medical and health, RWS, electricity and sanitation departments are coordinating the arrangements for the immersion.
In Suryapet district, arrangements have been made at Saddula Cheruvu in Suryapet and the Musi river at Ratnapuram, Pedda Cheruvu at Kodad, Mattapally bridge and the Krishna river at Mahakaligudem near Chillepally bridge. Around 3,150 Ganesh idols are expected to be immersed at these points on Wednesday.
Liquor shops will remain closed for 24 hours from 10 am on September 23 to 10 am on September 24.
