Chennai: The meeting venue of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for his campaign in the Madurantakam constituency on September 25 has been shifted to a larger ground with an area of 40 acres near Aathur since the police feel that a 10-acre ground fixed earlier will not be sufficient even though the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) functionaries has restricted entry to people in the constituency by issuing passes.
The venue in Acharapakkam along the bypass road near Vajragiri hills was selected earlier. TVK functionaries started clearing and levelling the ground. However, a 10-acre ground for a charismatic leader like Joseph Vijay is considered inadequate and it will also be difficult to restrict entry from the hill side which also poses a security risk.
Besides there should be sufficient parking space for vehicles and the traffic on the national highways nearby would come to a standstill if the Acharapakkam venue is allowed. The new place is near the Aathur tollgate and it is a vast ground extending for 40 acres.
The party functionaries have started cleaning the ground and a special dais will be erected for Joseph Vijay. The venue would be separated into separate compartments for the public and functionaries and a tent will also come up as there is a possibility of rains. Digital screens would be set up at many places on the venue and a separate parking space is being arranged for the vehicles.
The police are planning the entry and exit of vehicles as well as the people. The police officials inspected the places fixed for the stage and the parking area and reviewed the security of people. After the public meeting, the Chief Minister would carry out a roadshow throughout the constituency on October 2 which is a government holiday.
