Actor Ambika has broken her silence on the ongoing dispute with her sister Radha, saying she never wanted a private family disagreement to become a matter of public discussion. Speaking at a press meet in Chennai, Ambika said she had initially chosen not to respond because she hoped the issues could be resolved within the family. According to her, that changed after Radha approached the Greater Chennai Police with a complaint concerning signed blank cheques.
Radha has alleged that cheques bearing her signatures, which were kept at her residence, were accessed without her knowledge and subsequently presented in Ambika’s name. The total amount involved has reportedly been estimated at around Rs 46 crore. She has also alleged that the cheques were connected to the larger dispute over family properties and financial interests. The allegations remain claims at this stage and have not been adjudicated.
Ambika strongly rejected the suggestion that she had stolen the cheques. According to her account, Radha herself handed over the cheques during discussions aimed at resolving several long-standing disagreements between the sisters.
“It is true that she gave the cheques, and it is also true that she stopped them,” Ambika said.
The actor maintained that the cheque controversy cannot be separated from disagreements surrounding property, business interests and other financial matters. She said she had previously approached the authorities regarding some of these issues and that the matters were already under consideration.
Ambika also questioned Radha’s allegation that the signed cheques had been taken from her room without her knowledge. She described her sister as someone who was extremely particular about her belongings and argued that it would be difficult for such important documents to disappear without her noticing.
ARS Gardens and a dispute that has turned deeply personal
Much of Ambika’s emotional response centred on ARS Gardens, a property she described as being deeply intertwined with her family’s history. Recalling the memories associated with the property, she said it was “like my child” and spoke about the emotional impact of seeing the original ARS Gardens name removed.
For Ambika, the property dispute appears to represent more than a disagreement over ownership or financial interests. She spoke about the years of memories attached to the place and the significance it holds for the family, making clear that the developments have been personally painful.
The actor also brought up a separate disagreement involving gold ornaments. Ambika claimed that some of her jewellery was currently in Radha’s possession and said the issue had formed part of the wider discussions between the sisters about resolving their financial differences. According to Ambika, the proposed settlement discussions encompassed the gold, ARS Gardens, other properties and business-related matters.
The legal dispute is meanwhile expected to continue. Ambika’s lawyer said the cheques had been returned unpaid and indicated that further legal proceedings were being considered in relation to the alleged cheque dishonour. The legal team has also challenged Radha’s complaint. These are the respective positions of the parties and remain subject to the legal process.
Ambika concluded the press meet by reiterating that she did not want to fight the matter through the media. She said her decision to remain silent until now was driven by a desire to keep the disagreement within the family.
With the police complaint now bringing the dispute into the public domain, the sisters’ long-standing disagreements have entered a legal phase. For Ambika, however, the controversy remains rooted in something considerably more personal: a family dispute that she says she had hoped would never leave the confines of the family.
