In a 2018 interview with Vogue, Georgina talked about her husband, Harvey, being accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women. He served his jail term for his sex crimes in New York, Los Angeles, and London. Harvey denied any allegations of non-consensual sex.
Georgina stated that she had not known of the sexual harassment or assaults. She also stated that she never found out that her husband was unfaithful to her. She called it extremely painful as she had thought that they were in a very happy marriage, and she just loved her life.
Georgina further added that she never even found out that her husband, Harvey, was cheating on her. However, one thing she often noticed was that he traveled a lot, but she was never one of those who kept track of her husband’s whereabouts. Georgina’s whole world fell apart in 2017 winter. Talking about it, she said:
“I lost 10 pounds in five days. I couldn’t keep food down. And it was difficult, because the first article was about a time long before I’d ever met him, so there was a minute where I couldn’t make an informed decision. And then, the stories expanded, and I realized that this wasn’t an isolated incident.”
Georgina added that her first priority was to take their two young children away, and in October 2018, she announced leaving her husband, whom she married in 2007. She stated that she had a lot of rage and moments of confusion and disbelief. She was scared for their children and how their lives would pan out. She said:
“I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief. And I have moments when I just cry for my children. What are their lives going to be? What are people going to say to them? It’s like, they love their dad. They love him. I just can’t bear it for them!”
Georgina is the co-founder of a high-end fashion brand, Marchesa. She made a point of not attending any public events. The scandal forced her to cancel her brand’s runway show in January 2019, and she revealed that it felt just not right to do it. She added that all the women who were hurt deserved dignity and respect. She was quoted as saying:
“I was so humiliated and so broken. I didn’t think it was respectful to go out. I thought, who am I to be parading around with all of this going on? It’s still so very, very raw. I was walking up the stairs the other day, and I stopped; it was like all the air had been punched out of my lungs.”
Georgina did her best to sever all contact with Harvey after the whole scandal. She planned a Weinstein-free future for her children. She also clarified that she never wanted anyone’s sympathy and wanted people to remember that she was just a woman in a shitty situation.
