Warangal: Devotees bid an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha amid heavy rain in Warangal on Wednesday.
Immersion processions continued peacefully through the night across the Warangal tri-city and erstwhile Warangal district.
Despite the downpour, devotees participated enthusiastically in the celebrations and chanted farewell slogans, hoping to welcome Ganesha again next year.
Extensive arrangements were made at immersion points, including the Chinna Waddepally Lake and Kazipet Bandham Lake.
KUDA chairperson Gundu Sudharani, Warangal collector Satya Sarada and GWMC commissioner Venkanna supervised the arrangements at Chinna Waddepally Lake.
Hanamkonda collector and GWMC special officer Chahat Bajpai also inspected the immersion points.
The civic authorities arranged 30 cranes at 17 lakes under the Baldiya limits. Sanitation, drinking water, electricity, lighting and traffic arrangements were made at a cost of `2 crore.
Officials said around 8,000 idols were expected to be immersed by Thursday evening. In areas with high water levels, 145 trained swimmers and Disaster Response Force personnel were kept on standby.
In view of the heavy rain warning, Chahat Bajpai appealed to devotees to complete the immersion process as early as possible.
Officials said idol remains would be removed from the lakes after the immersion; and special action plans would be implemented for cleaning and desilting the waterbodies.
People were also encouraged to use clay idols to help reduce pollution in water bodies.
