WARANGAL: Wardhannapet Government Area Hospital superintendent Dr B. Veerin has resigned from the post following criticism over the reported incident of rats biting the body of a road accident victim kept in the hospital mortuary.
Significantly, Dr Veerin has maintained that his resignation is not related to the incident, but he is stepping down as superintendent for personal reasons. He maintained that he would continue to work as an orthopaedic doctor at the hospital.
Dr Veerin submitted his resignation to the District Coordinator of Hospital Services.
Dr Bharat, who is working as a civil assistant surgeon at the Wardhannapet Government Area Hospital, has been appointed as its new superintendent.
Incidentally, taking suo motu cognisance of the rat-biting-body incident, the Telangana State Human Rights Commission had directed the Warangal district collector to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report by October 27.
The resignation of the superintendent and appointment of a new incumbent come as questions are being raised over the maintenance of mortuary facilities at the hospital and the safety of bodies there.
