Visakhapatnam: The Anakapalli district administration and renewable energy company ReNew have signed a pact to launch Project Surya, a skill development and livelihood initiative aimed at increasing women’s participation in the fast-growing clean energy sector.
During the pilot phase of the three-year partnership, around 300 candidates, particularly women and youth from Anakapalli district, will be trained in solar power, renewable energy technologies, and operations and maintenance.
The programme aims to improve employability and create livelihood opportunities in the expanding green energy industry.
ReNew will design and deliver the training curriculum, appoint trainers, provide learning materials and conduct assessments.
It will also oversee candidate screening and training. The district administration will mobilise candidates and provide training infrastructure and essential amenities.
The initiative coincides with ReNew’s expansion in Andhra Pradesh.
The company is setting up a 6.5gw solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Anakapalli at an investment of `4,200 crore.
The facility is part of ReNew’s broader investment commitment of approximately ` 82,000 crore in the state, announced last year.
Its investments also include a 2.8gw hybrid renewable energy project in Anantapur district.
Together, the projects are expected to generate more than 3,600 direct and indirect employment opportunities across Andhra Pradesh.
District collector Vijaya Krishnan said the initiative would help develop a skilled, employable workforce while empowering women and opening pathways to sustainable livelihoods.
Skill development, she said, is essential for ensuring economic independence and a brighter future for young people.
Vaishali Nigam Sinha, co-founder of ReNew and chairperson of the ReNew Foundation, said India’s clean energy transition would create significant opportunities in manufacturing and allied sectors.
