A fan who pledged to walk from Nashville to MetLife Stadium following the Titans’ Week 1 loss to the Jets is walking back his promise.
@BallinFFB posted an update to his X account retracting his plan to complete the nearly 900-mile journey on foot.
“The past week on the internet has been an absolute whirlwind over a stupid tweet I made back in August,” the statement read. “Once it blew up, I immediately revised it, and that part of the bet was fulfilled with a $2,300 donation.
“Regarding the walk from MetLife to Nashville, with the help of the Titans and others, we explored every possible way to make it happen. I was also approached by a group of people who told me they would handle the logistics and help put the entire thing together. I trusted that process, but unfortunately, communication eventually stopped and I was ghosted,” he continued.
The statement goes on to explain how the walk ended up not being possible due to a lack of a safe method.
“Even after that, I continued looking at every possible option. The reality is that the route simply isn’t feasible,” he explained. “It’s not about my physical ability, there just isn’t a safe, realistic way to complete the walk as originally planned. My goal throughout all of this was to find a way to do some good and raise money for ALS and CJ2K.”
The day after the initial tweet promising the walk in August, the account noted it was impossible, but promised to donate $100 for each Jets point scored to a New York or New Jersey charity.
The account shared a link for a live auction supporting Chris Johnson, the former Titans running back who announced his ALS diagnosis in June, before the team’s season opener on Sept 13.
The Jets, following their 23-10 win, got in on the fun.
“Get steppin,” the team’s X account shared, along with a map of a route from Nissan Stadium to MetLife.
As recently as 10 days ago, the account was going back and forth on whether the walk was happening.
“For everybody that’s in my mentions I’m not walking so stop asking,” the account shared on Sept. 13.
The following day: “Alright…the walk is happening in some form. Working through the circumstances right now, but working on making it happen…”
Now, it seems to be just a pipe dream.
