Mary Kom recalls being suicidal during an emotional phase of life
In a recent Bigg Boss 20 episode, Mary Kom was conversing with Isha Rikhi, Rhiti Tiwari, Amrapali Dubey, and Kanika Mann when she revealed that she was strong in the ring, but there were times in her life when she felt absolutely helpless.

Speaking more about the same, Mary Kom shared that even though she considers herself to be someone really strong, during a particular year, she felt that she had lost and that she was broken from within. It was during the same time that Mary Kom wanted to end her life; however, it was because of her kids that she didn’t do the same.
The six-time world champion revealed that she has been through a lot in her life, and she had to sacrifice for her family, nation, and state. According to Mary, this phase was challenging. To quote her:
“I am very strong. But in that year, I lost a bit. I was broken. I had a lot to do. I wanted to end my life. That’s what I was thinking. But I am still alive for my children. They were small. I have been through a lot since I was young. I have sacrificed for my family, for my state and for my nation. Who can fight like this? This is a challenge.”
Mary Kom also talked about her professional field and stated that she’s a different kind of athlete, for whom only one or two medals were never enough, and she was always driven by the hunger to do more. However, it’s due to age that she can no longer participate. The boxer also shared that she has shed so many tears throughout her life; there was a time when she just couldn’t cry anymore and had to hold it in.
Mary Kom sparked a controversy in Bigg Boss 20 house
Speaking of her Bigg Boss 20 stint, she recently sparked a controversy. During one of the episodes, Qazi was seen speaking about sports icons of India, including Sania Mirza. It was during that time when Mary Kom interrupted and said that no one could achieve like her. It sparked a controversy outside the Bigg Boss 20 house, as viewers felt that her comment was meant to belittle the achievements of other Indian athletes.

As the controversy eventually intensified, Mary Kom’s team had to come forward and issue a public apology. In the apology note, it was revealed that the boxer didn’t mean to demean any athlete, as she has huge respect for everyone, and she also didn’t intend to compare her journey with anyone. The apology note could be read as:
“We apologise if Mary’s words were misunderstood. There was never any intention to demean or compare the journey with that of another athlete. Mary has immense respect for every athlete who represents India and gives their heart and soul to the sport. Every journey is unique, every achievement matters, and every medal makes India proud.”
