Some films take their time finding the right moment to arrive, and Pooja Meri Jaan is a textbook case. Shot back in 2022, the Navjot Gulati directorial is finally set to premiere on ZEE5 on October 2, closing out a four-year gap between wrap and release. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, the drama stars Mrunal Thakur, Huma Qureshi, Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz.
The story follows Pooja, whose decision to turn down a close friend’s romantic advances sets off a chain of unsettling events. What unfolds afterward blurs the line between victim and suspect, forcing the narrative to keep shifting perspective as it tries to answer one uncomfortable question: what really happened, and who’s responsible for it? Huma Qureshi plays Sana, a lawyer who steps into the case trying to separate fact from assumption.
Mrunal, who plays the title role, called the part one of the more demanding ones she’s taken on. “Pooja is a deeply layered character, and what drew me to both the film and her journey was the complexity of what unfolds around her. The role required me to navigate several emotional shades while consciously holding back the answers that the audience is meant to discover for themselves,” she said, adding that the story “constantly makes you question what you see, what you believe, and how quickly our perceptions can shape the way we judge a person or a situation.”
Huma echoed a similar sentiment about the film’s structure. “What makes Pooja Meri Jaan interesting is that it does not look at its central situation from just one point of view. It was a powerful experience to be part of a story that is emotionally engaging while also asking uncomfortable questions about consent, responsibility, justice and societal judgement.”
Vikram Singh Chauhan added, “The story keeps shifting your perspective and makes you question what is true and what is shaped by perception.”
