Government Whip and Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas’s statement that the countdown for BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao would begin on September 30 has triggered a debate among political circles.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to address a public meeting that day in Sircilla, the Assembly constituency represented by Rama Rao. Around a lakh people are being organised for the meeting.
Participating in preparatory meetings with party workers, Srinivas said Rama Rao was shaken after the CM announced his visit and that the countdown would begin in Sircilla on Sept 30.
He also said the people in the constituency would begin distancing themselves from the BRS working president from that day. Revanth Reddy would “shake KTR” in Sircilla and the meeting would demonstrate what fear meant to Rama Rao, he said.
The CM is visiting Sircilla for the first time after stating in the assembly that 8,000 acres of government and assigned lands had been occupied by BRS leaders in the constituency represented by Rama Rao.
Local Congress leaders said they were not aware of what the CM would speak about at the meeting. Congress sources, however, said the party was seeking to implement a two-stage strategy against the BRS, including highlighting the allegations of land encroachment and the main opposition party’s position on Dalit issues.
As part of the strategy, the CM has disclosed the names of BRS leaders who “occupied government and assigned lands” in different constituencies, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the Congress SC cell is considering a padayatra in all constituencies opposing the BRS’s purification programme using turmeric water at the Erravalli farmhouse.
During the padayatra, ruling party leaders would explain to the people the party’s charge that the BRS had failed to fulfill its promise of providing three acres of land to Dalits and expand the Dalit Bandhu scheme to all constituencies.
