Coimbra (Portugal), Istanbul (Turkiye), and Athens (Greece) will host the 2027 World Cup games, World Aquatics announced today.
The series of tournaments begins in Coimbra with the Women’s Division 2 tournament (December 6 – 13), followed by Division 1 (December 14 – 19).
The Men’s World Cup Qualification matches will take place in Istanbul. Division 1 will be played between January 11 and 16, and Division 2 from January 18 to 24.
Both Final Eight tournaments will take place in Athens from February 24 to 28, following the same pattern as this year, when both F8s were held in Sydney.
Greece (men) and the United States (women) won gold medals in the 2026 World Cup.
The stakes will be higher in 2027 than this season, because the gold medal winners will be the first teams to qualify for the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The qualifying formula is the same as in 2026.
Each Division 1 will have eight teams: the top 7 in the World Aquatics Rankings as of August 30, 2026, and the previous edition’s Division 2 winner.
The teams competing in Men’s Division 1 are Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Serbia, Montenegro, and the United States.
USA, Australia, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands and Russia will play in Division 1 of the Women’s World Cup.
Division 2 is open to all nations.
Both Greek national teams are directly qualified for the F8. Besides the hosts, the top five teams from Division 1 and the top two from Division 2 will advance to the Final Eight.
The qualification tournament schedule will be confirmed in mid-October, after the Division 2 registration deadline.
