Taylor McGregor is leaving Chicago for a larger role with the World Wide Leader.
The Cubs sideline reporter announced Wednesday that she is departing Marquee Sports Network after seven years to be a full-time talent at ESPN, where she has worked as a college football and UFL sideline reporter since 2019.
“Today is my last game broadcast with Marquee as I’m leaving to take on a full-time role with ESPN,” McGregor wrote on X. “Since I started in this industry, being a full-time reporter for ESPN has been my dream … It’s just that it requires me to leave a job I’ve loved wholeheartedly for the last 7 years.”
She used much of her statement to thank those she worked alongside at Marquee, including Cubs play-by-play duo Boog Sciambi and Jim Deshaies.
“What you see on the air is exactly how it is off the air,” she wrote. “There’s no one who’s impacted my career more than Boog. And no one who’s more enjoyable to be teammates with than JD.”
McGregor got emotional when she joined the booth with Sciambi and Deshaies on Thursday during the Cubs’ afternoon matchup against the Marlins.
“Every day was a joy,” she said. “It was a really hard decision to come to this. Ultimately, I just felt like it was the best move for me personally, and everything that I want, both professionally and personally. I have loved my time in Chicago.”
She is expected to cover the NBA for ESPN and potentially college basketball and host “SportsCenter,” in addition to her college football duties, according to the Chicago Tribune.
McGregor drew praise earlier this month for her live reporting during ESPN’s chaotic Florida State-SMU broadcast, when a power outage delayed kickoff by nearly two hours and forced her to repeatedly relay updates from the field as officials scrambled to get the game going.
