The Giants might have another massive hole to fill Sunday.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas did not participate in Thursday’s practice after exiting Monday’s loss to the Rams with a groin injury. The former No. 4 overall pick had taken the field for the walk-through portion of Wednesday’s practice with the starting offensive line.
If Thomas is unable to play in Week 3 against the Titans, Marcus Mbow would be called on to help protect Jameis Winston.
“I’m just staying ready,” Mbow said. “Just being ready for whatever.”
Mbow, a 2025 fifth-round pick, played 324 snaps during his rookie season, making three starts.
“It helps significantly getting those reps,” Mbow said. “[As a backup], it can be a challenge. You’re just trying to put yourself out there by watching, getting as many mental reps as you can. I’m just trying to make the most of all my opportunities when they come.”
Linebacker Brian Burns (ankle) missed practice for a second straight day, while cornerback Deonte Banks (calf), defensive lineman Shelby Harris (toe) and safety Tyler Nubin (calf) remained limited participants.
The loss of Jaxson Dart doesn’t mean the Giants are giving up on the season.
They expect the same of the fans who come to MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
“The crowd’s gotta be lit, just like it was the first week,” Cam Skattebo said after Thursday’s practice. “I think the entire city of New York still knows we have a really good shot at this. … We’re not gonna take a step down. We’re gonna continue to push and continue to work. We have our fanbase with us. If they’re giving everything they’ve got for us, I promise you they’re gonna get everything from us.”
Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson missed last Friday’s practice due to the death of his father and “hero” that morning.
Wilson, who is in his first season with the Giants, left for Los Angeles the next day to coach in Monday’s loss to the Rams.
“My heart was heavy, but I am thankful for this organization, the coaches and especially the players and my family and friends who have been helping me deal with my loss of my dad,” Wilson said Thursday. “If you go through an ordeal like that, it is tough, but it’s a part of our job. It’s a part of what we do. And if I’m there, if I’m on the field, I have to give my best.”
