Love Island host Maya Jama has spoke out on claims she’s getting back together with ex Stormzy after they re-followed each other on Instagram and fans spotted another ‘clue’
The rumour mill went into a frenzy this week after sharp-eyed fans spotted TV presenter Maya Jama and her ex Stormzy had re-followed one another on Instagram. Speculation reached fever pitch when Maya, 32, shared a clip of herself singing along to one of the rapper’s tracks. However, the Love Island host has swiftly quashed the rumours, insisting the pair are ‘just friends’.
Maya hit back after a rap music fan posted the clip of her singing to the song on X, writing: “Maya Jama posted an Instagram story singing along to ‘One Second’ by Stormzy,” followed by eye emojis.
The star quote-tweeted the post, writing: “I like the song. We have always been friends. No one is back together, rest with the theories.”
The post immediately went viral, clocking up more than 1.7million views as the rap fan replied to her: “It’s a banger to be fair.”
One supporter leapt to Maya’s defence, writing: “People act like just because it’s her ex she can’t like his music, it’s literally Stormzy lol, she would probably be a fan even if they didn’t date.”
Another fan chimed in: “And that’s how you shut down a rumour.”
While a third joked: “One Second is how long they took to make up their theories!”
Maya and Stormzy, real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, first crossed paths in October 2014 at a Red Bull Culture Clash event, going on to officially date from early 2015 before their widely-publicised split in August 2019 after roughly five years together.
Following four years apart, they officially reunited in August 2023, but after a year of attempting to salvage their relationship, they confirmed their permanent separation through a joint Instagram statement in July 2024.
In the wake of their final break-up, Maya briefly entered a relationship with Man City footballer Rúben Dias, 29, before they parted ways in May 2026.
The couple separated mainly because their romance had “run its course” owing to demanding work schedules.
According to sources close to them, their professional obligations intensified significantly ahead of the summer, with Maya embarking on a gruelling television filming schedule for Love Island and The Celebrity Traitors, while Ruben’s attention turned entirely towards the World Cup.
